    I think the guy is pressing for the actual equality of blacks at that point in time. Even though laws have been placed in the favor of equality the social barrier is still strong even in law force. The slow guy seems to be an advocate who is just spreading the word

    yea i agree with Derek, that might be his hero or someone to look up to. Maybe he was taught to express him self and that's what he is doing.

    To me it looks like he wants to make a difference and in his own way he is feeling productive.
